National Culture Week: Sparking a Conversation to Change the Culture

We know that people are all the same. Not in what we do and like, not in where we come from, not in how we worship and not in how we look. No, we are the same in that we are all human beings with more similarities than differences.

If we don't honor our differences, then we cannot celebrate each other. If we choose to see the world in terms of Us vs. Them, then we are giving in to prejudice.

When we see the world by asking "What Should We See?", there leaves no room for bias, discrimination, hatred or violence. Learn more about this world view here: #SeeMe.

National Culture Week (April 19th - April 23rd)

We believe in Changing The Culture with this world view and that is why, during the week of April 19th - April 23rd, we are again observing National Culture Week. This initiative of STOMP Out Bullying™ creates space and opportunity for youths to share and learn from each other's diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. This is how we will Change The Culture for ourselves, our schools, and our communities.

Consider these benefits of learning about and understanding different cultures:

1. You can understand the world better
2. You can challenge your own and others' biases
3. You can overcome and prevent racial and ethnic division
4. You can minimize stereotypes
5. You can enhance effective communication
6. You can learn new experiences
7. You can form deeper, more meaningful bonds

Culture Shock Event During National Culture Week

Additionally, the 3rd Annual Culture Shock Event will take place virtually on April 21, 2021 during National Culture Week.

This year's livestream panel discussion "Culture Shock" will be the catalyst for an online conversation as well as calling on schools and communities throughout the country to not only join the live stream discussion, but to continue the discussion throughout the week.

Previous live-stream panels have included: Actress Stephanie Hsu, Actor Mark Indelicato, Actress Alyson Stoner, Actor Rohan Chand, Actress Logan Browning, Actress Josie Totah and LGBTQ+ activist Sarah McBride. Last year our live-stream attracted hundreds of thousands of students tuning in from all over the nation who then carried the conversation into their own communities.

We want your school to participate! School faculty and administration… we invite you to become National Culture Week Ambassadors and register your school. Registration is now OPEN for this year's National Culture Week (April 19th - April 23rd) and Culture Shock live-stream event on April 21st.

BONUS: Registered middle school and high schools can participate in the live-stream event, be recognized on our website, help foster communication and exchange of ideas, and play a crucial part in building a stronger understanding of the challenges faced by the youth of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Register here.
