PARTICIPATE IN BULLYING PREVENTION
Show Your Support— Have Your School Participate And Act Against Bullying And Cyberbullying!

Create Student Agents of Change!
- Encourage your school to participate in bullying prevention
- Teachers and faculty should be educated about bullying and cyberbullying, its effects and how to handle each bullying complaint
- Teachers and faculty should be educated and trained on how to deal with bullies and get them the appropriate help they need in order to stop their behavior
- Raise awareness of bullying and cyberbullying prevention in your school
- Work with students to create peer mentoring programs and act as their advisor
- Set up "Bullying Boxes" in school so students can drop in anonymous complaints
- Have a "WHITE FLAG DAY" where the day at school is dedicated to peace, kindness and tolerance
- Start the school day with a kindness quote over the school loudspeaker daily
- Create a safe space where students who are afraid or at risk of harm can go and speak to a teacher or counselor
- Identify “hot spots" within the school where bullying is more likely to take place, and increase adult presence there.
- When speaking to parents of bullies, work with them as a team so the bully can get the appropriate help such as behavior management therapy or whatever therapy may be appropriate for the student and his or her family.
- Explain to students what will and will not be tolerated at school and online as students of your school. Create written guidelines as well.
- Work with school bus companies to stop the bus and separate situations that could become problematic. School bus drivers should also hand in a written report of all incidents to the school principal.
- Make the first Monday of every October the day that bullying prevention is heard around the world by participating in Blue Shirt Day™ – World Day of Bullying Prevention
EDUCATE
Educate Students About The Issue of Bullying
Raise awareness and increase understanding and create safe plans of how to respond to bullying and cyberbullying.
- Raise Awareness. Start a dialogue with students about their role in addressing bullying and cyberbullying
- Discuss the various forms of bullying, why students bully and have students interact in the conversation
- Discuss ways students can be proactive in stopping bullying and cyberbullying
- Discuss the meaning of empathy, morals, ethics, and responsibility
- Celebrate diversity in your school
- Discuss differences: cultures, weight, sexual preferences, different ways kids and teens act and dress, disabilities and other differences. Talk about the fact that it's okay to be different and it's not okay to make fun of or harass someone if they are different -- NO MATTER™!
- Talk about how you can prevent bullying and cyberbullying in your school
- Teach students (both victims and bullies) about STOPPING THE DRAMA and dealing with incidents in a calm way
- Teach empathy, tolerance, kindness and acceptance. If your school does not teach Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they should look into SEL programs for your entire school.
- Teach conflict resolution
- Roleplay to end hurtful language
- Educate students about being upstanders and helping others
- By role playing real life situations with your students you can create a real-life lesson that students can use when situations arise.
Roleplay bullying situations portraying how the victim feels and how the bully acts. Discuss in class.
Teachers can create mock facebook pages in class and computer lab and rolepost (roleplay) hurtful situations and discuss in class
ADVOCATE
Spread the word!
It’s easy to advocate. Spread the word by:
- Sending out important messages and talking points about the issue and events.
- Stress the importance of National Bullying Prevention Month in October and the significance of Blue Shirt Day™ World Day of Bullying Prevention on the first Monday of every October. This is a great way for students to take a call to action and raise awareness of the issue, as well as creating a full school and community participation.

- Start and supervise a peer mentoring group at school
- Raise awareness of bullying and cyberbullying prevention in your community
- Encourage students to create individual or group projects that empower others to build a more caring school community
- Teach and advocate empathy, kindness and tolerance
- Create events in your school with student participation
- Have students create bullying and cyberbullyng prevention posters
- Urge students to create bullying and cyberbullyng prevention videos and upload on the STOMP OUT BULLYING™ "Share Your Video and Story Page"
- Inspire students to post positive behaviors and compliment others on social media
